Sundays
It’s 4:15 am. Sunday.
My Mother and I have an arrangement. I drive to the Assisted Living facility at La Posada (8 minutes) and I have the noonday meal with her on a Sunday, and on the following Sunday, she comes to dine at our home with me.
Today, she eats with me.
I always ask her what she wants me to fix for her. Today the menu is Meat Loaf, Baked Potato, Fresh Green Beans, Home Made Cranberry Sauce, Home Made Cinnamon Apples, my freshly baked French Bread (which I haven’t baked yet) and pie ala-mode.
She won’t eat very much. She never does. But she will take a small portion of everything, and enjoy every bite. With Mother, it is all about quality and choices, not quantity.
I have eaten many meals with my Mother in the past. Most of those meals were prepared by her in her home. While I remember many of the meals, I don’t remember any meaningful table conversation. I was always too involved with other things. Eat and run.
Our Sunday arrangement not only provides time for us to enjoy a fine meal, it gives us the opportunity to visit one on one. We both look forward to our Sundays together.
You see with Mother and me, it’s about our quality time together.
Spend some quality time with someone you love.
