Green Valley Fire … Updates

The Florida Fire in the Santa Rita Mountains is likely to burn 18,000 acres, but that may not be such a bad thing.

Close to 500 firefighters are battling a wildfire in the Santa Rita Mountains that has charred nearly 18-hundred-50 acres since being sparked by lightning Thursday.

Fire Closes Madera Canyon

The Madera Canyon Recreation Area just East of Green Valley was closed today.
“It will take monsoon moisture to extinguish this fire,” Coronado National Forest spokeswoman Heidi Schewel said.

While we can see the smoke from our patio, the fires in the Santa Rita Mountains are miles away and no threat to any residents of Green Valley.

Waiting for the Monsoons

Yep, it’s me!
With my straw hat (mandatory in the Summer in Green Valley) and my geezer sunglasses, I’m just keeping cool…waiting.
The monsoon season could start any day now, but our first chance (10%) of rain isn’t until Monday. In the meantime, I’ll just check the monsoon stats from the National Weather Service.
