No Snow

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

I turned off the snow. It just doesn’t appear that we will have a White Christmas this year in Green Valley. Besides, it was just plain bothersome for me.

For all my friends and readers from the great Midwest, eat your hearts out!

What’s your communication cost?

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

I’m almost in the upper third of households.
The bill for being thoroughly plugged in to entertainment and communications runs more than $200 a month for a third of the households in this country. Four in 10 spend between $100 and $150 a month, according to the poll of 1,006 adults taken Dec. 13-15. […]

Person(s) of the Year

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Since 1927, TIME Magazine has chosen a man, woman, or idea that “for better or worse, has most influenced events in the preceding year.”
For more years than I care to admit, once again I was not selected.
I seriously doubt if I even made their short list!
The richest man in the world, Bill Gates, and his […]

‘Tis not the season

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

It’s been painful not to write about recent policital events, but because of the season you’ll find no mention here of such blog-worthy subjects such as domestic spying, Snoopgate or the “I” word.
I feel better now.

Christmas, Arizona

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Christmas is a quiet, dusty place with lots of mesquite bushes and cactuses. It’s hardly the postcard-perfect spot Currier and Ives would have picked for a town with such a festive name.

Deck the poles…

Monday, December 19th, 2005

…with boughs of holly.

My neighborhood, Esperanza Estates, has a tradition of decorating the light poles/mail boxes for the Holidays. Many are lighted and a drive through the neighborhood at night is a beautiful sight to behold.

Sticker Shock

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

Sighted in Green Valley yesterday. Talk about information overload!
There’s sixteen (16) stickers if you count the ones on the back window.

This column continues the series HOA 101, a Beginner’s Course in Homeowners Associations, which is designed to give you a basic knowledge of HOA law and concepts.
Today, we will discuss an HOA’s ability to restrict the behavior of owners and the ability of the HOA to restrict […]

The Staff at La Posada

Friday, December 16th, 2005

The Assisted Living Facility at La Posada in Green Valley has assembled a staff of dedicated, friendly, knowledgeable and courteous people unlike any other business in the area. The “Poster Child” in this respect is Jackie, pictured here behind the front desk (helping someone I know fairly well).
Thanks, Jackie, for everything you […]

Staff Your Stores!

Friday, December 16th, 2005

We went shopping in Tucson Wednesday. We ended up at a major department store, found some pants for me, then stood in line with other disgruntled shoppers, all just wanting to pay for their items and get on with their lives.
There were only two employees in the clothing department; a new, no-nothing cashier […]
