TV-B-Gone

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

I would love to get one of these if only to use it in the waiting room of a lab here in Green Valley. Their TV is not only too loud and tuned to some not-worth-watching channel, there is a sign, “Don’t touch this TV!”
It would be worth the $20 just to see their reaction.

I’m reading instead of posting

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

Only recently have I allowed myself the pleasure of reading for enjoyment. I have always read books, but my choices were always nonfiction selections. I read to learn.
Two people recently recommended the same book as one they thought I would enjoy. I did! The Lincoln Lawyer’s main character is a criminal defense lawyer whose office […]

Should you be allowed to comment?

Monday, February 20th, 2006

In order to combat comment spam, a decision was made to require registration before posting comments. It worked. No more comment spam.
Requiring registration has a negative side. Some aren’t willing to go through the process; a few persons are unable to follow the instructions. I can tell by how many attempts some users make. […]

Memorial Service

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

We visited my Mother yesterday at La Posada. She was at a Memorial Service for a former resident when we arrived
We caught the end of a very nice service. Mother later showed us the printed hand-out. It contained a prayer about aging. There’s something here for everyone.

Be careful what you write

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Similar to the discussion in a previous post about commenting in blogs and forums is an article about avoiding flame wars in emails. Those of us with a dry, somewhat sarcastic sense of humor need to re-read what we have written before hitting “Send.”

E-mail is very easy to misinterpret, which not only triggers flame […]

They shoot burros, don’t they?

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

Maybe there’s a good reason for this. Maybe not.
On a plaque in Oatman:
If it were not for these burros, in all probability, neither you nor the plaque would be standing here today.
Almost every day, a dozen or so wild burros come down from the foothills of the Black Mountains of northwestern Arizona onto the main […]
