  • Delayed and Cancelled Flights

    Carson Danfield asked:

How can I avoid flight delays?

    - Research the Airlines’ on-time ratings and use the Airline with the best rating.

    - Keep up with the news and see if your Airline is facing any upcoming labor negotiations. If they are in negotiation near the time you are planning your trip, you might want to use another Airline in case yours has a work stoppage or slowdown.

    - Avoid peak travel time.

    - Check the weather conditions that are common along your route to see if you can plan your trip to avoid periods when foul weather causes delays.

    - Fly nonstop or with the least amount of connections possible. Each time you land and take off you increase your chances to encounter delays.

    - Take early morning flights. Early flights are less likely to be delayed and if they are delayed you’ll have more options remaining through out the day to complete your trip.

    - Avoid the last flight of the day since a delay might force an overnight stay.

    - If you fear you’ll suffer from a flight delay, consider using a paper ticket over an electronic ticket. If you need to transfer to another Airline to continue your trip, a paper ticket can save you time. Most Airlines are not yet able to transfer passengers flying on e-tickets without first taking the time to switch them to a paper ticket.

What should I do if my flight is delayed or canceled?

    - If your flight is delayed or canceled, work with the Airline’s counter personnel to book you on another flight. Being nice and working with the agent will often bring much better results than losing your temper.

    - If there is a line at the counter, call the Airline’s reservation center directly to book another flight instead of waiting in line for the few people available to help. See if they can guarantee you a seat on another flight.

    - If you have another person traveling with you, spread out with one in line and the other on the phone. Try to stay within eyesight of each other in case one of you needs to wave the other one over. If you have a cell phone, call the Airline while you’re standing in line and see who can help you first.

    - See if others in your party belong to any premium clubs that will help to get you special consideration.

    - Ask to be protected under the Airline’s own written rules in the ticket’s conditions or contract of carriage for dealing with missed connections, delayed and canceled flights so you are given all the consideration you are legally due. This section of the contract is often called “Rule 240″, but no matter what it is called, they will have a section that specifically spells out what action they must take to help you continue your trip and what compensation you are due, if any.

The U.S. Department of Transportation mandates that a copy of this contract be available to passengers at the Airline’s ticket counter. Many Airlines also provide this information on their web sites so you might print it off and take it with you in case you need it.

Some Airline employees will try to tell you to that they no longer use “Rule 240″, but no matter what they call this section of their contract they still have to honor their written guidelines in the contract of carriage. These guidelines are part of the legal contract that deals with you. Both you and the Airline agreed upon these terms when they sold and you purchased their ticket. The Airline cannot choose to disregard part of a legal contract and enforce a different policy.

    - If other Airlines are still operating, see if your Airline is willing to find you a seat on another Airline. Although, their contract may allow them some time to first find you a flight on their own Airline, most state that when they fail to do so, they will try to find you a seat with another Airline. Know that many Airlines limit your potential choices of other Airlines only with certain Airlines that have existing agreements with your Airline. Your option probably won’t be to find any other flight at the airport that works. It will be to find another flight from a list of specific Airlines.

    - The Airline’s “Rule 240″ may state that, if you so choose, you are entitled to an involuntary refund for any unused portion of your ticket, even if you purchased a nonrefundable ticket.

    - “Rule 240″ also specifies what, if any, other compensation you are due because of the flight’s delay or cancellation. The compensation due will usually vary depending on the reason for the flight’s delay or cancellation.

    - If it looks like lots of people are going to be stuck for a long time, consider booking a hotel room and/or a rental car before everyone else grabs them all.

    - Look into other practical forms of transportation such as trains, buses, or rental cars. The airport may close, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the highways and railroads are impassible.

    - Move quickly, a closed airport will mean that other forms of transportation and hotel rooms will sell out quickly.

    - Update any future reservations with Airlines, hotels or rental cars that will be effected by your delay.

What type of compensation will I receive if my flight is delayed or canceled?

You may think a delayed or canceled flight will get you complimentary meals and a free hotel stay, but that’s not always true. However, you can take some actions to make sure you are given all the assistance and compensation you are due.

    - Being nice and working with the agent will often bring much better results than losing your temper. You can let them know you are upset without turning your anger toward them.

    - You might have to rely on your negotiation skills to cover some expenses caused by the flight’s delay or cancellation. This is where being professional can help.

    - Ask to be protected under the Airline’s “Rule 240″, so you are given all the consideration you are legally due. “Rule 240″ refers to the Airline’s own written rules in the ticket’s conditions or contract of carriage for dealing with missed connections, delayed and canceled flights. “Rule 240″ specifically spells out what action they must take to help you continue your trip and what compensation you are due, if any.

    - The U.S. Department of Transportation mandates that a copy of this contract must be made available to passengers at the Airline’s ticket counter. Many Airlines also provide this information on their web sites so print it off and take it with you.

    - Some Airline employees will try to tell you to that they no longer use “Rule 240″, but no matter what they call this section of their contract, they still have to honor their written guidelines in their contract of carriage. These guidelines are part of the legal contract that deals with you. Both you and the Airline agreed upon these terms when they sold and you purchased their ticket. The Airline cannot choose to disregard part of a legal contract and enforce a different policy.

    - Most Airlines will first try to reschedule your flight or offer you coupons good toward future flights. However, many, although not all, Airline’s “Rule 240″ state that, if you so choose, you are entitled to an involuntary refund for any unused portion of your ticket if you decide not to travel on the rescheduled flight, even if you purchased a nonrefundable ticket.

    - It’s always a good idea to pay for your plane ticket with a credit card. It usually makes it easier and quicker for you to get your refund and, if the Airline gives you hard time about refunding your unused ticket, you can ask your credit card company about the possibility of a charge back.

    - If the Airline requires you to mail in your unused ticket before they will issue a refund, be sure to make a copy of your ticket before you put it in the mail.

    - “Rule 240″ also specifies what, if any other compensation you are due because of the flight’s delay or cancellation.

    - The compensation due will usually vary depending on the reason for the flight’s delay or cancellation. Compensation for delay will also vary depending on the amount of time that you were delayed.

    - If the delay or cancellation is caused by issues beyond the control of the Airline, often referred to in a “Force Majeure” clause, any compensation you are due may be limited or eliminated.

    - “Force Majeure” is a big catchall phrase that identifies many possible situations whether actual or threatened that cannot be foreseen by the Airlines and/or are beyond the control of the Airline. Many situations can qualify under “Force Majeure”, but some that are often listed include, the weather, acts of God, government regulation, terrorism, wars, hostilities, security and safety concerns, strikes, work slowdowns, labor-related disputes, shortage of labor or fuel.

    - Depending on your particular circumstances, you may be entitled to compensation for an overnight stay in a hotel, meals, phone calls or other transportation costs. However, there are limits and restrictions on all these forms of compensations. Many Airlines will not pay for an overnight hotel stay at the origin point or destination of your flight and many even deny paying for a stay if your flight is stopped at an airport near your home’s main airport.

    - If you are late checking in, you may have waived your right to any compensation you are due, including your right to an involuntary refund.

    - Keep all receipts for expenses caused by your delay or flight cancellation. No matter what their rules say, you can always make an appeal to the Airline’s customer service department and you’ll want the receipts to back you up. Send your Airline copies of the receipts and keep the original receipts.

    - Even though, your Airline may not be required to give compensation, they still may provide you with something to keep you a happy customer.

Everybody knows that there’s one thing that could make your holidays perfect and that is getting cheap flights. We all love spending the holidays somewhere far away from all our problems, jobs and stress factors. It’s actually great to travel to wonderful corners of the world. And probably one of the most difficult aspects is to plan the entire journey to the smallest detail, finding the best offers and of course cheap flights to the desired destination.

In order to maximize your trip and lower your costs, you should be able to reserve cheap flights online. When it comes to finding such great offers for cheap flights one should know that the market is rich in choices but only if the hunt starts early. Take your time and visit the websites of various traveling agencies so that you can find the best flight for your holidays.

As the needs of the clients diversify and they start looking for more and more sophisticated holiday destinations, traveling agencies have to keep up with the competition in the industry. In consequence, they provide great opportunities for clients interested in popular destinations, offering at the same time cheap flights and traveling insurance. This might not be the case of the entire branch but there is certainly one special offer out there for you.

In order to easily find and book cheap flights, wherever it is you may wish to travel, you should try and abide by some simple rules. First of all, compare prices. It is very important to look at every available offer out there when you are hoping to book cheap flights. Don’t make a mistake by just going with your regular travel agent or you may lose a lot of money for nothing. Travel packages are easily compared through websites that help you compare rates and point out the bargains for you.

For maximum economy, book online. You will save a lot of time and you are not forced to search through the city for different travel agencies. This saves you valuable time and gets you discounts which you can only get online. Buying online is cheaper because it costs the travel agent less money. Cheap flights are just one part of the package. Some websites that help you compare rates for holidays packs also give you links to cheap accommodation and enjoyable city breaks. Holidays are expensive enough so you don’t have to add unnecessary costs by not getting cheap flights online.

If you worry that cheap flights might also mean bad services and lack of reliability than you should ask for references from you family or friends who have tried the same company. We all look for cheap flights online and asking your friends for help might end up saving you money. They might know of some offer you don’t and you will regret it later if you don’t consult them on cheap flights. Also by asking them about cheap flights on holidays you get an honest rating of the services and comfort provided.

Don’t start looking for a cheap flight just a few days before holidays because you won’t find them. Book ahead and plan ahead everything because it’s guaranteed you will get the best rates. This sometimes requires you to look for offers of cheap flights months ahead of your scheduled holidays. But booking ahead saves you money and time. You don’t have to worry about your flights at the last minute and you know exactly what you are going to spend.

After you’ve done all the necessary research you should always make sure you read the all the information presented to you carefully. Get a list of cheap flights and read all their fine prints; then make an informed decision and add all necessary taxes. If you have found the offer through a travel agent then you two should have a discussion about the conditions of the cheap flights and the flying options in general. The most important thing is to get what you paid for and not be tricked just for choosing cheap flights. After all, it’s your holidays and you want to make sure that everything goes perfect.

Finding cheap flights on the Internet requires extensive research and advanced comparisons on the websites of specialized companies in the field. Though the work may be hard, you will discover in the end that it is completely worth it, saving you a lot of money and allowing you to enjoy your holiday the right way.

Before you go on holiday or away for a business trip, compare flight prices to make sure you are getting the best deal for your money. By comparing airline prices over time and for a variety of carriers, you are far more likely to get a deal on flight reservations. The wide differences in airline ticket prices can be attributed to a number of factors.

Some of these differences have to do with flight density, but others have to do with departure and arrival locations, time of flight, and even which airline carrier you choose. Before you book a flight, compare flight prices. You will be glad that you were a savvy consumer and did your research before you made such a major purchase.

Below is a short list of some of the most common causes for differentiation between airline ticket prices. If you compare flight prices, these factors are likely to have an impact on the prices you will find. Consider what you are looking for in a flight, and then use these tactics to select the airline tickets that most meet your needs.

Location: The location of your departure and final destination can impact the prices of your flight tickets. You will find that more common locations may be more affordable than destinations to which fewer flights are headed. This may be because addition legs must be added after reaching a major city, thus lengthening your flight and adding more transfers in order that your flight is completed.

However, you may also find location working in your favor if you choose a less direct flight to reach one major metropolitan area from another. When you compare flight prices, you will likely find that flying from one city to another is more affordable if you do not do so directly. Direct flights are in high demand, and so can be charged more for. But if instead you are willing to have one or two layovers at more medium sized cities, you will likely be able to reach your destination at a lower price. To compare flight prices, look around to assess your options and find a flight that will be acceptable to you.

Time of day: Often, flights cost more if they depart in the middle of the day. Peak hour flights, you will find when you compare flight prices, can cost a moderate amount more than off-hour flights. Flying very early in the morning or late at night can be more affordable, and earlier flights sometimes stand a smaller chance of being delayed since the day’s flight schedule is just beginning.

When it comes down to it, there is no right or wrong answer as to how to compare flight prices. Consider the factors you are looking for, and weigh them in relation to one another. Do you want the flight with the lowest price? Would you prefer a flight that is the most direct, or takes the shortest amount of time?

Or would you prefer a flight that is on a smaller or larger plane, or with a certain airline? Take all these factors together when you compare flight prices, and this will help you make the airline reservation that best meets your needs.

Many people travel across the country for business or pleasure every day. Flying is still the most convenient way to get from one place to another if a distance of over 100 miles is involved. Considering the price of gasoline these days, it is also generally cheaper than trying to drive great distances. Still, the cost of going to the airport ticket counter and buying a flight ticket is unmanageable for most people. It is fortunate for them that the internet offers the best way to book an airline flight and get cheap flight tickets.

As with anything good, there are some catches to booking an airline flight on the internet. If one wants to get cheap flight tickets, one must usually book several weeks to months in advance. There are certain periods that will not be available to those looking for cheap flight tickets because these are peak travel times when the airlines are normally booked full and charge their maximum rates. These times are normally around holidays.

If one is willing to put up with some minor inconvenience, one can book his/her airline flight so that there are one or more stopovers and connecting flights. This method normally allows for the least expense when looking for cheap flight tickets. The odds against finding a nonstop flight at a lower cost are astronomical, unless of course, the destination is one of central hubs where transfers occur all the time, such as DFW in Dallas.

Other accommodations, such as hotels and car rental can also be booked in advance online. Using the internet in this fashion can allow a person to maximize his/her savings when making a planned trip, whether for business or pleasure. The number of available websites and resources for accomplishing each of these tasks is huge. Some offer combined booking of an airline flight with hotel reservations. Others offer only cheap flight tickets but you can go to other sites to arrange accommodations and car rental.

Shopping around is usually a good idea. Leaving everything to one website leaves open the possibility that one may get a good price on the airline flight, but pay more than necessary for a hotel and rental car. Everyone involved is trying to make money, so most people benefit from shopping different sites for the best deals on cheap flight tickets, then shopping for the best hotel rates, then the best car rental rates separately. This helps to assure that one site is not taking advantage of a need by offering a discount here, but taking it back there.

With so many people travelling by air every day, it is easy to see that booking in advance online can have many advantages over trying to purchase tickets for an airline flight at the gate. Cheap flight tickets may require booking as much as three months in advance, but the savings are substantial when one knows when they expect to be travelling.

Southwest Airlines cheap flights operate on a point to point system rather than the more conventional hub and spoke system that many other carriers prefer. With more than three thousand flights a day, Southwest Airlines flights can often be bought cheaply because it is a low cost carrier.

The point to point system may benefit the traveler, as rather than having a central airport from which many of its flights originate, the Southwest Airlines model flies its airplanes between airports, with each of its airports having relative parity with the next. To cut down on costs and enable cheaper flights, Southwest Airlines frequently uses the secondary airports of its origin and destination cities. This may be a benefit or a disadvantage, depending on where the traveler wants to go in the destination city. Secondary airports usually have lower tariffs and charges for the airline, and the reduction in costs is often passed on in part to the consumer in the form of Southwest Airlines cheap flights.

Flying the High Life with Southwest Airlines Cheap Flights

However, Southwest Airlines also waives the rule about serving only secondary city airports - it also serves some of the major airports in the big cities. Listed below are some of the major airports that may be served if you book a Southwest Airline cheap flight.

    1. Philadelphia International

    2. Denver International Airport

    3. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

    4. Orlando International Airport

    5. Detroit Metropolitan Airport

    6. Lambert St. Louis International Airport

    7. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

    8. Seattle-Tacoma International

    9. Pittsburgh International

    10. San Francisco International Airport

    11. Washington Dulles International Airport (limited flights, also serving Baltimore-Washington International Airport)

The Los Angeles area is served by Southwest Airlines cheap flights via four airports including the major Los Angeles International (LAX). The one airport not served by Southwest Airlines in the Los Angeles area is Long Beach so if you are headed there you will need to check out the fares of other low-cost carriers that fly to the area.

Benefits of Booking Southwest Airlines cheap flights

So why should you check out Southwest Airlines cheap flights rather than those of other carriers? First, the point to point system employed by Southwest airlines means that it is likely to have flights going between your intended origin and destination cities. If you are relying on cheap flights from other carriers, you’ll probably be in luck if you happen to be living in a hub city otherwise, you might struggle to find a cheap flight to your intended destination.

Another reason to check out Southwest Airlines cheap flights is the fact that it avoids “farming out” its fares. It is not likely that you’ll find a Southwest Airline cheap flight on fare search sites like Orbitz or Expedia. It is better that you go to Southwest Airline’s home on the web to find bargain flights there. The current home page of Southwest Airlines can be found at http://www.southwest.com. Southwest Airlines has had an online presence for more than a decade. Its flights are sold direct from its web site, and Southwest Airlines has a great record for online sales. As such, you are likely to find good deals on Southwest Airlines cheap flights exclusive to its web site. So why not check it out today?

  • Flight Of The Conchords Tickets

    Macie asked:

The Grammy Award-winning New Zealand comedy duo composed of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, Flight of the Conchords, come billed as New Zealand’s fourth most popular folk-parody band. The duo has found their niche by combining humor that ranges from the subtle to the outlandish with a variety of musical genres. Their self-titled, full-length debut for Sub Pop Records culls fourteen songs from their acclaimed stand-up musical act and hit HBO series.

The famous duo Flight of the Conchords formed in the year 1998. Since then, they have developed a mass cult following. The group uses a combination of witty observation, characterization and acoustic folk guitars. The duo’s comedy and music became the basis of a BBC radio series and then an American television series, which premiered in 2007, also called Flight of the Conchords.

Flight of the Conchords first performed as part of a five-man group called So You’re a Man, which included Taika Waititi, and had a small but loyal following in New Zealand and Australia. They performed their first televised performances over four nights on Newtown Salad, a show on Wellington’s short-lived local TV station Channel 7, which was later renamed as WTV. In 2002 and 2003 they performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and were nominated for the Perrier Award in 2003. In 2004, the band created a radio series for BBC Radio 2, based on the band’s search for commercial success in London, and this series won the duo the Bronze Sony Radio Academy Award for comedy. They also performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival where they won the Best Newcomer Award.

The band again performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004. They were later featured in a 2004 campaign for British mobile phone retailer Phones 4U and on Australia’s ABC TV in the show Stand Up! The band also received a special on Friday night half-hour stand-up comedy series One Night Stand from HBO. They then headlined at the opening weekend at Comix comedy club where they recorded two tracks included on 2007’s The Distant Future. They also performed at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. During their visit to Texas, they recorded a documentary titled Flight of the Conchords: A Texan Odyssey, which aired on New Zealand’s TV3 in late 2006. In the year 2007, the band performed on David Letterman’s Late Show, appeared at the 2007 Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, and was also interviewed by Terry Gross on the NPR radio show Fresh Air. The year 2008 put a stamp on their success as on February 10, 2008, the band won the Grammy for best comedy album for The Distant Future. The band’s other achievements include many awards. Time magazine’s James Poniewozik named it one of the Top 5 New TV Series of 2007, ranking it at #2, whereas, Entertainment Weekly named Flight of the Conchords the seventh best show of 2007. Flight of the Conchords was nominated for two Emmys in 2008, for Best Writing- Comedy Series and Best Directing- Comedy Series.

The Albums which the Flight of the Conchords have released so far, include, Folk the World Tour in 2002, The BBC Radio Series: Flight of the Conchords in 2006, The Distant Future (EP) in 2007, Flight of the Conchords in 2008. Pencils in the Wind / Albi The Racist Dragon is a Single, and they are going to be coming up with their new upcoming album this year, that is, 2009.

The band’s most sold and hit album so far has been the Flight of the Conchords which was released in 2008, under the label of Sub Pop. All the songs in this album are already well known to fans through other mediums. “Foux du Fafa” is an infectious dance song that conveys the dangers and pure silliness of knowing just enough French to get you into trouble. “Think About It” is FOTC’s attempt to address the issues plaguing our society. Think Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On?” but about monkey diseases and bizarre accidents with cutlery. The best track on this album might be “Mutha’uckas,” a song that jokes about the censorship required to play hip-hop on radio and television. However, the most disappointing part of this album for the band’s fans is the omission of the songs which are loved by many. But perhaps they’ll make their way onto a future release.

The famous duo Flight of the Conchords will soon be performing in many US cities so if any one of you does not want to miss their chance of watching this great duo perform live, then you must get your tickets to Flight of the Conchords concert soon!

Airfare and discount flight availability can be displayed by cheapest airfare price first or by specific airline, departure time or by flight duration. Select the flight deal that suites you, then use the ‘Best Priced Supplier’ to make a direct reservation. Click on the “Select” button and you will be redirected to the airline or suppliers secure website to complete your booking direct. Other helpful tips on finding great flight deals include:

    1. Book early to catch the ‘early booking’ deals. Some cheaper fares require a minimum 21day advance booking period.

    2. Flying out on a weekend is usually more expensive, try flying mid-week Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

    3. Subscribing to airline newsletters is the best way of staying ahead of the crowds. Most airlines now circulate airfare news in their weekly or monthly newsletter, including latest special offers and incentives plus the dates when reservations open for a new flight season.

    4. Try not to restrict yourself to flying from one particular airport, the more choice you give yourself the better chance you have at finding a cheaper deal.

    5. Flying on a direct or non-stop service is not always cheaper. Very often the cheapest deals will involve a number of stops or change of aircraft or both.

    6. Look out for the ‘include budget airlines’ search option on price comparison travel sites.

Remember, budget (no-frills) airlines don’t always have the cheapest deals, especially the closer you get to departure date. Prices can change very quickly so don’t forget to check all flight options including flights with full service-airlines.

    7. If possible, be flexible with travel dates, this will help you find those cheap fares. Most flight search systems display prices for flights either side of your chosen date, in order for you to see how much you could save by amending your itinerary or travel plans.

    8. If flying to a holiday destination out of season, look out for last minute cheap one way charter fares, but remember, it might not be as easy or as cheap when trying to book your return flight.

To get the best overview of the cheapest flights available, don’t forget to use a Flight and Airfare Comparison ‘multiple website’ search facility.
