Super Wal-mart opening moved up

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

We had to go to Wal-mart yesterday. The place is a mess because of the transition to the new store. One of the clerks told me that the new Super Wal-Mart will be open in nine (9) days, on Friday, January 27th, with their Grand Opening still scheduled for the end of the month.
The good […]

South Tucson Shopping Expansion

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Looks like we may not have to drive very far for quality shopping in the future. A huge development is planned just South of the existing Home Depot-Target Center off of Irvington.
JC Penney, Best Buy, Sports Authority, Bed Bath & Beyond, Shoe Pavilion, Pier One Imports, 4-5 restaurants and an 18 screen theater should […]

Esperanza Estates Patio Cover

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

Our neighborhood is in the process of installing a patio cover in the pool area. This should really be nice for hospitality events, family gatherings and general usage of the area.
So, if you would like to take a peek inside, be our guest. Remember, you can click on the thumbnail image to get a larger […]

Christmas Cactus

Sunday, January 1st, 2006

Our Christmas Cactus is at least two seasons old. I am guessing that the amount of available light is determinative of the bloom time. I could look it up, but there’s just too many football games.
Take a peek at an Arizona native Christmas plant.

White-winged dove

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

We were sitting outside on our patio the other night enjoying the late afternoon when I noticed several White-winged Doves in our Mesquite Tree. I wanted to take some pictures but by the time I got the camera and returned outside, most, if not all, had flown away.
OK, I know. It’s a bad picture […]

Buyer’s market in Green Valley?

Saturday, December 24th, 2005

It’s probably too early to tell here in Green Valley, but some parts of Phoenix are witnessing a Buyer’s market. We won’t really know until all of the Snowbirds Winter Visitors arrive.
The number of homes for sale in the Southeast Valley has increased almost to the level of two years ago, before the market spiked […]

Diners!

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

I love diners.
Dona’s Diner in Green Valley almost qualifies. Almost, because it’s located in a shopping mall, and the cooks aren’t anywhere to be seen.
I love the old-style diners that were prevalent through the 1950s…those American institutions that offered generous portions of comfort food at bargain-basement prices.
As much as the food, I really […]

No Snow

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

I turned off the snow. It just doesn’t appear that we will have a White Christmas this year in Green Valley. Besides, it was just plain bothersome for me.

For all my friends and readers from the great Midwest, eat your hearts out!

Deck the poles…

Monday, December 19th, 2005

…with boughs of holly.

My neighborhood, Esperanza Estates, has a tradition of decorating the light poles/mail boxes for the Holidays. Many are lighted and a drive through the neighborhood at night is a beautiful sight to behold.
