Network TV Sucks!

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

All (three) of my favorite network shows are now showing reruns; I have seen every Seinfeld episode, some as many as three times; and now I learn that Kris Pickel is leaving for Sacramento.

Oh well, there’s always Turner Classic Movies…

Indy 500, commercialism at it’s best

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Yesterday was a slow, relaxing day for me so after CBS Sunday Morning, I decided to watch four hours of advertisments interrupted, albeit briefly, by the Indianapolis 500.
OK, I realize that ABC has to make some money, and yes, the last few minutes of the race was commercial free, but give me a break! If […]

What I heard and didn’t hear

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

I watched some TV last night. Here’s some of what I heard:
• September 11, 2001
• weapons of mass murder
• wood chips
• switch grass
• line-item veto
• hopeful
and here’s some things I was wanting to hear, but didn’t:
• any mention of the 45,000,000 uninsured
• plan for simple, affordable health care
• exit strategy
• lobby reform
• campaign finance reform

HOA Voting

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006

Our Homeowner’s Association holds their annual meeting soon. We have some director positions to fill and there’s a special ballot on parking. The vote for directors is by secret ballot; the vote on parking isn’t. The resident’s lot number has to be indicated on the special ballot. Why?
I have talked to a couple of directors […]

All of the people, all of the time?

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006

I guess that when you post over 400 articles in less than a year, you’re going to PO someone, and I’m not talking about a person with contrary views on a particular subject.
I received an email from a small company who objected to a comment another person made, and claimed that the comment infringed upon […]

Staff Your Stores!

Friday, December 16th, 2005

We went shopping in Tucson Wednesday. We ended up at a major department store, found some pants for me, then stood in line with other disgruntled shoppers, all just wanting to pay for their items and get on with their lives.
There were only two employees in the clothing department; a new, no-nothing cashier […]

A Walk Through A Safeway Checkout

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

Guest Comment
Sooner or later most of us go through a supermarket checkout line, even the wealthy physicians and business moguls and mogulettes who populate those multimillion-dollar homes on the north side of Tucson.
Being single, I walk the walk almost every day. It’s a real educational […]

Jury Duty, concluded

Thursday, December 1st, 2005

Ninety of us timely appeared at or before 9:30 AM yesterday and took our seats, waiting…
Finally, around 11:30 AM, we were told that the Judge Lee’s jury had been selected, our services were no longer needed, and we were free to go. “See you next year,” the clerk said. Great!
What a waste of our time […]

Green Valley Recreation Dues

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005

Even though the dues are not due until January 1, 2006, the invoices arrived yesterday.
If you are able to take advantage of all of the facilities and programs offered by GVR, it is probably a bargain, but for the rest of us, it’s just another $385 expense we could all do without.
And don’t give us […]
