Checkpoint
If you’re driving North on I-19, North of Tubac, you may encounter a checkpoint maintained by the Border Patrol. We did, on Cinco de Mayo. And that can sometimes mean long lines.

For the first time ever, the officer stopped us and asked us if we were U. S. Citizens. I replied, “Se!”
No I didn’t. I don’t think you want to mess with these guys.

Now, If you were a bad dude, and wanted to bring something illegal across the U.S.-Mexican border, would you really take I-19? In the middle of the day? I don’t think so.

Have you tried taking the “high” road?
We exit the interstate, make a brief stop, or usually just slow down and wave, and then roll right back down into traffic. Takes about 30 seconds.
