New place for Mexican food
We wanted to eat Mexican food on Cinco de Mayo. And, we wanted to try someplace new.
A resident of Rio Rico suggested that we try Las Trankas. We did, and we’re happy to have found yet another Mexican Restaurant we can recommend.
My lady ordered a Beef Taco Salad and I had the Shredded Beef Tostados which was served with Rice and Beans. Other than the fact that the frijoles were a bit “runny,” all of the food was extremely tasty. Much better than one can get here in Green Valley.
There was a huge amount to eat, but since we skipped breakfast, we cleaned our plates. Our Mothers would be proud!
Lunch with two soft drinks and Flan to share for dessert came to $22 with tax and tip.
Take I-19 South to the Peck Canyon Road exit. Turn right (West) and go a short distance to the frontage road. Take the frontage road South about 2 miles, and the restaurant will be on your left (East).

Do you have many restaurants to choose from in the Green Valley area? Do you often go up to Tucson when you want to eat out?

Sure we do. I think we have good Mexican food, great Italian and French food choices, and very good Chinese. We’re always on the lookout for different places though.

No, most of the time we find it easier and faster to go locally. When we have time, or when we happen to be in Tucson, we eat in Tucson.

was the food and salsa better then La Placita?

Food was much better than La Placita, although I love their Albondigas. Las Trankas might just be the third best place for Mexican food in our area.
The salsa at Las Trankas can’t really be compared with La Placita. It was thicker… more like La Cosa Poca, but not quite that good! The chips were home made, thick but maybe fried a bit long for my taste.
