The Animal League of Green Valley

We had an enjoyable time at TALGV yesterday. We looked at the dogs. We looked at the cats and kittens. We walked through their thrift shop. We were impressed.

Sure, the animals were cute and difficult for us not to adopt, but what impressed us the most were the volunteers. So helpful, so friendly, and so dedicated.

We encourage you to visit the facility at 1600 West Duval Mine Road. Their thrift shop is a worthy alternative to the White Elephant. Your tax-deductible donations are used directly for the care and feeding of the animals.

Beat you to it–when my former cat died at 17 years during my first year in GV (2001-2002), I gave them a bunch of cat food and other “cat things”. They ARE nice people, but inquiring minds want to know why you were there. Is there to be a furry addition to the Pearson household?

We just happened to be driving by…

    Not!

I have wanted a four-legged companion for years but Miss Nancy has always said that I would have to take care of it; feed it; walk it; clean up after it; and all the negative aspects of pet ownership. I have now convinced her to assist me. We found two kittens that begged us to take them home. Lots of responsibility. Just not ready to make the commitment yet.

Cats, in fact, have a few advantages over dogs. Feeding is easy: pour out a bowl of dry food and refill it every few days. Other stuff (kitty treats, wet food) is nice for special occasions but not required. No walking needed, and not much cleanup (OK, dump the litter box ever week and a half or so–if you use the silica gel litter like I do). They do make it more difficult to read the paper (they are required to lie on any paper you are attempting to read) and will sometimes type you a note on any computer keyboard that is on, but they are worth it. Go get those kittens!
