What are all these crosses?
I was going to post some images, but they would only reveal a white cross about six feet in length and width contrasted against the blacktop in our neighborhood. (I may post one later) One is located at a three street intersection, and I saw another along a curve in the street.
At first, it looked to me like the markings for a helipad.
Some have suggested that they are actually compass points. Huh? If so, where’s the indication of North? And better yet, why?
I’m hoping that Pima County placed the crosses to indicate where new surfacing is planned. Meanwhile, the mystery remains.

I’ve seen them around Tucson too, and I’ve always wondered what they are.

Knowing now that these crosses appear in Tucson as well, I made several phone calls to the City of Tucson and Pima County, and the answer I finally got was that they were placed there by surveyors and used in aerial photography.
I should have asked more questions but I was transferred to so many different departments, I was tired of waiting. Maybe Google Maps had something to do with it.

Thanks for taking the initiative to find out. I’ve had a couple of people ask me so I’ll put it in the Memo next week.
