Why read blogs?

There was a bit of discussion during Tuesday’s coffee group about blogging. I think it’s a fair statement that most of the group knows what a blog is, but few have any interest in reading anything except recognized media.

Hey, that’s their choice.

People tend to read blogs that discuss mutual issues of interest. The focus of many blogs is much more narrow than mainstream media. News items tend to be posted on blogs much quicker.

But there is another reason.

I posted about Ron Stander, a boxer from Council Bluffs, Iowa, who fought Joe Frazier for the world heavyweight championship in Omaha, Nebraska. You can read the post here.

Recently, Ron Stander’s wife and son have commented on the post. Where else can you find a forum for two-way discussion where anyone with an opinion or comment can make their voice heard? Letters to the Editor? Yeah, right!

Blogs serve a three dimensional purpose. The blogger can post whatever is on his/her mind. Others can comment on the post. And all can read both comments and posts.

Try that with other media forms.
